CALMITSAC Technology Program

CALMITSAC, or California Marine and Intermodal Transportation System Advisory Committee was formed to unify the complex goods movement community. Its statewide and federal organizations include federal and state transportation and regulatory agencies, organized labor, port authorities, railroads, the petroleum industry, the California university system, and the environmental advocacy groups (NRDC).

Bill Lyte is Secretary/Treasurer of CALMITSAC, representing California’s engineering industry.

Increasingly, CALMITSAC has focused on technology, first for security, later for goods movement and environmental issues. Mr. Lyte established the Technology Committee in 2005, and its emphasis is now to expand the L.A/Long Beach port technology cluster (technoplex) methodology to all the West Coast ports. This is being conducted under the auspices of the USDOT Maritime Administration (MARAD). The Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach TAP program administrators are now part of the Technology Committee, which will also serve as a point of interface for all state and federal technology programs relevant to goods movement.
