Pasadena Technoplex

In a nine year consulting effort, from 1991-1999, Bill Lyte worked with the City of Pasadena to start up a citywide technology cluster.

Eventually, this included Pasadena City College, the California Institute of Technology, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Huntington Hospital and Art Center College of Design.

Pasadena’s engineering, finance, legal, and real estate services firms became extremely involved. More than 200 firms were commercialized during the effort.

Technical areas included internet, optics, biomedical devices, environmental systems, venture capital firms(John Glanville – Athanaeum Capital) and an angel investor network, the Pasadena Angels, were established, and a 100+ acre technology zone was established.

This is now anchored by Art Center College of Design on the redeveloped City power plant site.

Dedicated organizations such as Pasadena Entretec were created to support the technology community. Mr. Lyte worked closely with the City’s technology team leader Eric Duyshart to organize events, write newsletters, develop videos and pass critical supporting technology infrastructure for the program.
